"Throughout history the representation of nature in art has captured the imagination. Artists have endeavoured, and occasionally succeeded in capturing the essence of the natural world, drawing the attention of audiences to the fine detail, which surrounds us but is often overlooked. Living forms emerge from the stones of an Indian beach, human images fused with a verdant flora suggest a closeness with the nature which appears lost in the modern world. The work of Asokan Nanniyode with its influences in the surrealists of the west and the spiritual philosophies of the east demands that we question our own relationships to both material and spiritual aspects of our world. Here is an artist driven by a belief that man will live more easily if he can regain that closeness and affinity with nature, which has been left behind in a materialistic world. Asokan expresses his ideas through the lucid application of paint on canvas. His work is at once restful and demanding and a focus for discussion and debate. He draws upon well established traditions whist searching for a new and personal interpretation of ideas and in so doing creates images which stay in the memory." "Asokan’s art builds bridges. Bridges between the real and the surreal, between the natural and the artificial, between surface and essence, between East and West. It blends, it integrates, it reconciles. And, invariably, it worships beauty. I like it a lot."
